Choosing Fruit In A Grocery Store

While shopping for fruit in a grocery store, it is important to observe several qualities about the fruit to make sure that you are purchasing quality food.

One of the things that you should check for are discolorations on the outer portion of the fruit. For example, bananas that contain a fair amount of “black spots” should not be purchased as these bananas are not as fresh and healthy as normal bananas. A strawberry, for example, may display some weird discoloration on the leafy portion. You should avoid fruit like this in general.

Another important thing to watch out for are “dents” in the fruit. Some fruits, such as cherries, are more likely to be damaged by the various movements that the fruit makes from the farm to the grocery store. You should avoid buying fruit with these dents in them as these dents may have caused holes in the fruit, leaving it exposed to oxygen. This, of course, would cause the fruit to prematurely go bad.
